I did an interview in April with Adm. Thad Allen, the 23rd Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, regarding social media & the Coast Guard. The Coast Guard has been spearheading a move into the world of Web 2.0 and interaction with the public through online outlets, and Adm. Allen has been a prominent part of that transition. Should you ever get the chance again, I suggest asking the Admiral about his thoughts on selective segregation of the Blogosphere. Essentially Coast Guards process for identifying Blogs as either friend or foe. LCDR Tony Soliz in the office of Governmental Affairs has said that Coast Guard will not take questions or comment on articles in Blogs that publish what they believe to be half truths, or in error. However, he refuses to answer the question of what is in error.

At the end of the day if Coast Guard believes that some Blogs "get it wrong," but at the same time they refuse to help the blog get it right by answering basic questions or requests for comment … then who is really getting it wrong?
